Dan Henry 1963 GMT Automatic instructions

Dan Henry 1963 GMT Automatic instructions

Your Dan Henry is powered by the Seiko NH34, an automatic movement that is often referred to as “self-winding.”.

Automatic movements harness energy through the natural motion of your wrist. No battery is necessary.

If worn every day, your 1963 GMT will not need winding.

When fully wound, your watch can store energy to run for 30 hours.

If the watch is not worn for several days, wind it for initial power (see Crown Positions).

Crown Positions

1. Unscrewed (wind the movement)

  • To wind the watch, rotate the crown clockwise.
  • If the watch has stopped because the automatic movement has run out of power, wind for about 30 rotations before wearing if you have not used the unit for more than a day.

2. Partially pulled out (change the date and GMT hand)

  • To advance the date, turn the crown counterclockwise.
  • Do not adjust the date between 9 pm & 3 am while the date gears are in motion to change the date.
  • To adjust the GMT hand, turn the crown clockwise.

3. Fully pulled out (adjust the time)

  • The seconds will stop. Rotate the hands to set the time.
  • We recommend you only turn the hands clockwise for the long-term health of the movement.

Using the 24-hour GMT Bezel

  • Your Dan Henry 1963 GMT can show up to three time zones simultaneously.
  • The watch hands show your local time; the GMT hand can monitor a second time zone, and the external 24-hour bezel shows the third time zone.
  • For example, to monitor the time in a city five hours ahead of your GMT, turn the bezel counterclockwise for five clicks or five hours and read the hours of the second time zone in the bezel.

GMT - Greenwich Mean Time

GMT is the time at the Royal Observatory in Greenwich, London. Because of its strong connections to maritime travel, the village of Greenwich was chosen in 1884 as the reference point for all time on Earth.

Screw-down Crown

Your crown screws down to improve water resistance and protect the movement.

  • To open the crown, turn it counterclockwise until it is no longer threaded.
  • To secure the crown after adjusting the time or date, gently push in the crown to align the screw threads; then turn clockwise.

Water Resistance

Your GMT watch has been tested for 100 meters of water resistance. You can wear your watch while in a swimming pool or scuba

The crown must be completely screwed in to ensure that the watch is water-resistant.

Do not wear your watch in the humidity of a sauna, or in a bath or shower; soap dries out the rubber seals, and your watch may lose its water resistance.
